Week 19 — Capstone Delivery & Showcase
Unit 4: Lead in Community • Domain IV
Essential Question: Did it work — and did it matter?
Key Performance: Public Showcase + measured impact data.
Day 1 — Final Sprint Plan
Objective: SWBAT identify the last critical-path tasks before showcase.
Do-Now (5): "What absolutely must be done by Thursday?" • Circle (5): Single word. • Mini-Lesson (10): Scope triage — must / should / could. • Practice (25): Teams triage remaining backlog; cut "could" items publicly. • Close (5): Commit to "must" list.
Day 2 — Storytelling the Impact
Objective: SWBAT design a 5-min lightning talk + visual that tells project story.
Do-Now (5): "If you had 60 seconds with a board member, what would you say?" • Circle (5): Roses/thorns. • Mini-Lesson (10): Showcase story arc — context → problem → action → impact → ask. • Practice (25): Teams draft script + visual. • Close (5): Rehearsal partners assigned.
Day 3 — Logistics Day
Objective: SWBAT own showcase logistics (invites, signage, AV, refreshments).
Do-Now (5): Logistics owner per team confirmed. • Circle (5): Check-in. • Practice (40): Logistics work block — invitations sent (if not), signs printed, AV tested, room arranged, agenda finalized. • Close (5): Final logistics checklist signed off.
Day 4 — Dress Rehearsal
Objective: SWBAT deliver final lightning talks to peers + receive feedback.
Do-Now (5): Final script read. • Circle (5): Brave check-in. • Practice (40): All teams rehearse to whole class; peer + teacher feedback on rubric. • Close (5): Final tweaks.
Day 5 — PUBLIC SHOWCASE (evening event recommended; class-time backup)
Class-time prep (if showcase is evening): Final setup, mental prep, last circle. • Showcase (~60–90 min): Gallery walk + lightning talks. Families, partners, admin, board. Students own greeting, signage, AV. Teacher = host + photographer. • Post-event: Thank-you notes within 48 hours (assigned).
Assessment
- Capstone Rubric (32 pts, see
../02-assessment-and-rubrics.md). - Showcase artifact: visual + script + impact data + 3 audience-feedback notes.
Differentiation
ML/EL — co-deliver welcome with bilingual partner. Foundational — students can choose 1-min spotlight role within team's talk. Stretch — students may MC the showcase.
Sub Plan
Do not run showcase with a sub. Reschedule the day if you must.
Stretch & Swap
Invite local press (Roseville Today, Press Tribune); send press release Monday.
Family Engagement
This is the most important family contact of the semester — make personal calls Monday, not just email.
