Week 08 — Feedback Culture

Unit 2: Lead With Others • Domain II
Essential Question: How do I give feedback that helps and receive feedback without flinching?
Key Performance: Feedback Carousel with documented give + receive + response.

Day 1 — Why Feedback Is Hard

Objective: SWBAT name the emotional reactions feedback triggers and one strategy to manage them.
Do-Now (5): "A time I got feedback that stung — what did I do with it?" • Circle (5): Single word. • Mini-Lesson (10): Stone-Heen "3 triggers" (truth, relationship, identity). • Practice (25): Story round in trios — one feedback story, group names the trigger. • Close (5): "My trigger is most often ___."

Day 2 — How to Give: SBI

Objective: SWBAT use the Situation–Behavior–Impact frame to give feedback.
Do-Now (5): Read 2 feedback samples; pick the better one and say why. • Circle (5): Roses/thorns. • Mini-Lesson (10): SBI structure + "ask before you give." • Practice (25): Pairs draft SBI feedback to each other on Week-7 speeches. • Close (5): Deliver one piece of SBI.

Day 3 — How to Receive: SOAR

Objective: SWBAT receive feedback using Stop, Own, Ask, Reflect.
Do-Now (5): "What I usually do when I get critical feedback…" • Circle (5): Check-in. • Mini-Lesson (10): SOAR mini-model. • Practice (25): Role-play — A delivers SBI; B practices SOAR; observer scores. Rotate. • Close (5): Self-rate: which letter of SOAR is hardest?

Objective: SWBAT both give and receive feedback in 4 rotations.
Do-Now (5): Identify one growth edge to invite feedback on. • Circle (5): Brave check-in. • Mini-Lesson (5): Carousel protocol. • Practice (30): 4 stations × 6 min: speech delivery, listening lab, group project moment, peer leadership behavior — students rotate, give + receive SBI at each. • Close (5): "One piece of feedback I will act on this week is ___."

Day 5 — Friday Circle: Going Back With What We Heard

Do-Now (5): Write your "What I'll do with it" plan. • Circle (25): Friday Circle + extra round: "A piece of feedback I'm grateful for." • Practice (15): Portfolio: log feedback received + response. • Close (5): Leader of the Week.

Assessment

4-pt rubric: SBI quality • SOAR demonstration • Response (action) • Tone (kind & honest).

Differentiation

ML/EL — provide SBI/SOAR sentence frames cards in pocket. Pass rule honored in carousel.

Sub Plan

Day 3 SOAR role-play with provided script.

Stretch & Swap

Invite an athletic coach to model giving feedback in front of class — coaches are pros at this.
