Week 11 — Vision, Mission, Goals (SMART)

Unit 3: Lead Teams & Projects • Domain III
Essential Question: What are we trying to do, and why does it matter?
Key Performance: Team Charter for capstone team (formed this week).

Day 1 — Form Teams

Objective: SWBAT form a capstone team of 3–4 with intention.
Do-Now (5): "What kind of teammate do I need to do my best work?" • Circle (5): Single word. • Mini-Lesson (10): Team formation criteria — interest, skills mix, working style. • Practice (25): Interest sort (campus, civic, peer, family domains) → skills mix → form teams. Teacher adjusts to balance. • Close (5): First team handshake.

Day 2 — Vision vs Mission vs Goals

Objective: SWBAT distinguish a vision (the world we want) from a mission (what we do) from a goal (how we'll know).
Do-Now (5): Read 3 sample org statements; label V/M/G. • Circle (5): Roses/thorns. • Mini-Lesson (10): V/M/G chart with student-friendly examples. • Practice (25): Teams draft v1 of each. • Close (5): Team posts on wall.

Day 3 — SMART Goals

Objective: SWBAT convert a fuzzy goal to a SMART goal.
Do-Now (5): Rewrite "We want to help our school" as SMART. • Circle (5): Check-in. • Mini-Lesson (10): SMART acronym + 2 anti-patterns (vague verb, no measure). • Practice (25): Teams revise yesterday's goal to SMART. Gallery walk + critical-friend feedback. • Close (5): Goal v2 submitted.

Day 4 — Team Charter

Objective: SWBAT draft a Team Charter (V/M/G + roles + working agreements + communication norms).
Do-Now (5): "When teams I've been on broke down, it was usually because ___." • Circle (5): Check-in. • Mini-Lesson (10): Charter template walk-through. • Practice (25): Team drafts full charter; signs. • Close (5): Charter to portfolio.

Day 5 — Friday Circle: Charter Read-Aloud

Do-Now (5): Final charter polish. • Circle (15): Each team reads their V/M and one working agreement aloud. • Practice (25): Class critical-friend protocol — teams trade charters and offer 1 "warm" + 1 "cool" feedback. Teams revise. • Close (5): Leader of the Week.

Assessment

4-pt rubric on charter: V/M/G coherence • SMART quality • Roles clarity • Working agreements specificity.

Differentiation

Stretch — students with prior project leadership take Liaison role with partner; foundational team members focus on Maker role.

Sub Plan

Day 3 SMART revision works as a sub day with template.

Stretch & Swap

Bring in a local nonprofit director to react to the charters as critical friend.
