Week 05 — Habits, Time, Energy (Unit 1 Capstone)

Unit 1: Lead Yourself • Domain I
Essential Question: How do I lead my day so my day doesn't lead me?
Key Performance: Launch the 14-Day Habit Tracker + Unit 1 Reflection (1 page).

Day 1 — The Math of a Week

Objective: SWBAT audit how they spend 168 hours.
Do-Now (5): Guess: "How many hours of sleep, school, screens, sport, family, sleep did you get last week?" • Circle (5): Single word. • Mini-Lesson (10): 168 hours, no more, no less. Trade-offs are honest. • Practice (25): Weekly time audit chart, colored. Pair compare. • Close (5): "Where did I spend energy I'm proud of? Where did I leak it?"

Day 2 — Habits vs. Decisions

Objective: SWBAT distinguish habits (no decision needed) from decisions (cost willpower).
Do-Now (5): "List 3 things you did today without deciding." • Circle (5): Roses/thorns. • Mini-Lesson (10): Cue → routine → reward (Duhigg). Show 1 example from teacher's life. • Practice (25): Each student maps one habit they want to start and one to stop. Cue/routine/reward for each. • Close (5): Pick one to launch tomorrow.

Day 3 — Energy, Not Just Time

Objective: SWBAT identify the 2-hour window in their day when they're sharpest.
Do-Now (5): "When in the day do you do your best thinking?" • Circle (5): Check-in. • Mini-Lesson (10): Time is finite; energy renews. Protect peak windows for hard work. • Practice (25): Energy map of yesterday on a clock face; circle peak window; commit to one task to move into it. • Close (5): Exit: "My peak window is ___; I'll move ___ into it."

Day 4 — Launch the 14-Day Tracker

Objective: SWBAT design a tracker that fits their life and start it today.
Do-Now (5): Final habit choice. • Circle (5): Quick. • Mini-Lesson (10): Trackers fail when too ambitious. Rule: 1 habit, ≤10 min, daily. • Practice (25): Design tracker (paper grid or app). Buddy commits to a daily text/DM. • Close (5): Day 1 mark.

Day 5 — Friday Circle + Unit 1 Reflection

Do-Now (5): Read your Week-1 goal + values statement. Honest update. • Circle (25): Unit 1 closing circle — each student shares one sentence: "Five weeks ago I would have said ___; now I say ___." • Practice (15): Unit 1 Reflection (1 page) submitted to portfolio. • Close (5): Leader of the Week + Unit 2 preview.

Assessment

  • Unit 1 Reflection (4-pt rubric: Self-awareness depth • Evidence • Honesty • Connection to values).
  • Habit Tracker launched (binary completion).

Differentiation

Stretch — students design a team habit (e.g., a shared morning routine with their accountability partner).

Sub Plan

Day 1 audit is sub-friendly; rearrange if needed.

Flex Day Note

This week contains the unit-end flex day; use it for guest speaker or makeup conferences.

Stretch & Swap

Replace mini-lesson Day 3 with an athlete or musician guest on energy management.
