## Day 1 — The Values Sort
**Objective:** SWBAT identify their top 5 values from a deck of 40.
**Do-Now (5):** "What is something you'd be willing to lose a friend over?" • **Circle (5):** Single word. • **Mini-Lesson (10):** Define *value* vs *preference*: a value is what you'd pay a cost for. • **Practice (25):** Card sort — 40 → 10 → 5 → 3 (silent, then partner). • **Close (5):** Snapshot top 3 in journal.

## Day 2 — Where Did These Come From?
**Objective:** SWBAT trace each top value to a source (family, faith, experience, choice).
**Do-Now (5):** "Pick one value. Tell its origin story in 5 sentences." • **Circle (5):** Roses & thorns. • **Mini-Lesson (10):** Inherited vs chosen values — both are real, both can be questioned. • **Practice (25):** Values genealogy chart. Pair share. • **Close (5):** "A value I want to *keep on purpose* is ___."

## Day 3 — Values in Conflict
**Objective:** SWBAT analyze a real dilemma where two values collide.
**Do-Now (5):** Read short case: "Loyalty vs Honesty — your friend cheated on a test." • **Circle (5):** First-instinct check-in. • **Mini-Lesson (10):** Most ethical dilemmas are not good vs evil; they're good vs good. • **Practice (25):** Small-group case analysis (3 cases on rotation), record reasoning. • **Close (5):** Exit: "When my values collide, I tend to default to ___."

## Day 4 — Drafting the Statement
**Objective:** SWBAT draft a 1-page Personal Values Statement.
**Do-Now (5):** Read a mentor text (sample statement). • **Circle (5):** Quiet check-in. • **Mini-Lesson (10):** Structure — Top 3 values + one sentence each + one commitment ("Because I value ___, I will ___"). • **Practice (25):** Silent drafting + one peer read with a single feedback prompt: "Where do you hear this person most clearly?" • **Close (5):** Submit draft.

## Day 5 — Friday Circle: Commitments Out Loud
**Do-Now (5):** Final edit pass. • **Circle (20):** Each student reads ONE commitment sentence into the circle. (No commentary; honor the moment.) • **Mini-Lesson (5):** Frame: "You said it. We heard it. It's real now." • **Practice (15):** Portfolio upload + shout-outs. • **Close (5):** Leader of the Week.

Foundational — students can produce a values *poster* with images + 5 sentences instead of prose; ML/EL accept bilingual.

Replace Day 3 case with a current local-news dilemma from a Roseville school board agenda — bring authentic civic context in early.
