# 02 — Assessment, Rubrics, and the Leadership Portfolio

## The Roseville Leader Profile (RLP)
Every student is assessed across **6 competencies**, on a 4-point scale, three
times per semester (Week 1 baseline, Week 10 mid, Week 20 final).

| # | Competency | Looks like… |
|---|--------------------------|----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
| 1 | Self-awareness | Names own values, triggers, strengths, growth edges with specific examples. |
| 2 | Self-management | Manages time, attention, emotion; keeps commitments; recovers from setbacks. |
| 3 | Communication | Listens to understand; speaks with clarity, evidence, and audience awareness. |
| 4 | Collaboration | Builds psychological safety; gives/receives feedback; navigates conflict; includes others. |
| 5 | Decision-making & Ethics | Uses frameworks; weighs impact; acts with integrity when no one is watching. |
| 6 | Civic Contribution | Identifies needs, designs action, delivers impact, advocates with stakeholders. |

### 4-Point Scale (used for every competency)
- **4 — Leading:** Independently and consistently. Teaches it to others.
- **3 — Practicing:** Independently in familiar situations. Beginning in new ones.
- **2 — Developing:** With prompts and support. Inconsistent transfer.
- **1 — Emerging:** Awareness only; not yet in action.

> *Important:* grade **growth from baseline**, not absolute level. A 9th grader
> moving from 1 → 3 is the same achievement as a 12th grader moving from 3 → 4.

## Grade Weighting

| Component | Weight |
|------------------------------------|--------|
| Leadership Portfolio (artifacts + reflections) | 40% |
| Weekly Performance Tasks (the Key Performance in each week) | 25% |
| Capstone Project (Weeks 11–20) | 20% |
| Class Participation & Daily Routines (rubric below) | 10% |
| Self-Assessment & Goal Setting (3x per semester) | 5% |

## Portfolio Requirements
Students maintain a **digital portfolio** (Google Site / Canvas page / Notion)
with these sections:

1. **About Me** — bio, photo, six-word memoir, values statement.
2. **Weekly Reflections** — at least 20 entries (one per week), 150+ words each.
3. **Evidence** — artifacts from the Key Performance each week (video, doc,
   photo, peer feedback).
4. **Feedback Log** — at least 5 pieces of feedback received (peer or teacher)
with a written response: "What did I do with this?"
5. **Capstone** — proposal, plan, execution evidence, impact data, reflection.
6. **Leadership Letter** — final letter to next year's students.

### Portfolio Rubric (out of 20)

| Reflection depth | Connects to values, evidence, theory, next steps | 3 of 4 | 2 of 4 | Recap only |

## Daily Participation Rubric (used every Friday)
| Score | Look-fors |
|-------|--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
| 4 | On time, prepared, contributes to circle, lifts at least one peer, completes reflection. |
| 3 | On time, prepared, contributes when invited, completes reflection. |
| 2 | Present, partial contribution OR reflection. |
| 1 | Present but disengaged. |
| 0 | Absent without recovery plan. |

## Weekly Performance Task Rubrics
Each weekly file has a task-specific 4-point rubric in its `Assessment` section
that maps back to the RLP competencies. Use the same 4-point language
(Leading / Practicing / Developing / Emerging) for consistency.

## Capstone Rubric (out of 32 — 8 dimensions × 4 points)
1. Needs assessment grounded in evidence (interviews, data)
2. Clarity of goal and theory of change
3. Stakeholder engagement
4. Project management (timeline, roles, communication)
5. Quality of deliverable
6. Measurable impact
7. Reflection and learning
8. Public communication of results

## Self-Assessment Cadence
- **Week 1:** Baseline self-rating on all 6 RLP competencies + written goal.
- **Week 10:** Mid-semester self-rating + peer feedback summary + revised goal.
- **Week 20:** Final self-rating + portfolio defense (5 min + 3 min Q&A).

## Calibration Note for Teachers
Norm your scoring with a colleague at least twice per semester. Pull 3 random
portfolios, score independently, then talk through differences. This is how
your grading stays valid as you build experience.

## Re-engagement Policy (no zeros)
Missing work is recorded as **"Incomplete — re-engage by [date]"**. Student must
submit by the date or schedule a recovery conference. After the second missed
recovery, loop in advisor + family. Grade reflects the work, not the lateness.
